Virginia Cannabis Laws and Regulations

Both medical and adult-use (recreational) cannabis are legal in Virginia. The medical cannabis program was established in 2017 and became operational in 2020. Adult-use cannabis was legalized in 2021, with retail sales expected to begin in the future.

Virginia allows registered practitioners to certify patients for medical cannabis use for any condition that the practitioner believes can be treated with cannabis.

Virginia allows telemedicine for medical cannabis consultations, including for initial certifications and renewals.

Pay the application fee and submit required documentation.
