Massachusetts Cannabis Laws and Regulations

Both medical and adult-use (recreational) cannabis are legal in Massachusetts. Medical marijuana was legalized in 2012, and adult-use cannabis was legalized in 2016 with sales beginning in November 2018.

Massachusetts allows telemedicine for medical cannabis consultations, including initial certifications and renewals.

Register with the Massachusetts Medical Use of Marijuana Program.

Step 3

Pay the application fee and submit required documentation.

Complete the online application

Await approval (usually within 10 business days)

Obtain a new certification from a qualified healthcare provider
Submit a renewal application online
Pay the renewal fee ($50, waived for patients with verified financial hardship)
Renew annually
