Connecticut Cannabis Laws and Regulations

Both medical and adult-use (recreational) cannabis are legal in Connecticut. Medical marijuana was legalized in 2012, and adult-use cannabis was legalized in 2021 with sales beginning in January 2023.

Medical Marijuana Card Process

Step 1

Obtain a certification from a registered physician, advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), or physician assistant (PA).

  • Connecticut allows telemedicine for medical cannabis consultations, including initial certifications and renewals.

Step 2

Register with the Connecticut Medical Marijuana Program.

Step 3

Pay the application fee and submit required documentation.

  • Valid Connecticut driver's license or state ID
  • Proof of residency
  • Physician certification
  • Application fee ($100)
  • Visit the Connecticut Medical Marijuana Program website
  • Complete the online application
  • Upload required documents, including physician certification
  • Pay the application fee
  • Await approval (usually within 30 days)
  • Obtain a new certification from a registered practitioner
  • Submit a renewal application online
  • Pay the renewal fee ($100)
  • Renew annually
