Medical cannabis is legal in Arkansas. The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment was passed in 2016. Adult-use (recreational) cannabis remains illegal.

Medical Marijuana Card Process

Step 1

Obtain a written certification from a qualified physician.

  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hepatitis C
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Tourette's syndrome
  • Crohn's disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Severe arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Cachexia or wasting syndrome
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Intractable pain
  • Severe nausea
  • Seizures
  • Severe and persistent muscle spasms
  • Arkansas allows telemedicine for medical cannabis consultations, including renewals. However, the initial certification must be done in-person.
  • Valid Arkansas driver's license or state ID
  • Written certification from a qualified physician
  • Application fee ($50)

Step 2

Submit an application to the Arkansas Department of Health.

Step 3

Pay the required fee and provide necessary documentation.

  • Visit the Arkansas Department of Health website
  • Complete the online application
  • Upload required documents, including physician certification
  • Pay the $50 application fee
  • Await approval (usually within 10-14 days)

  • Submit a renewal application online
  • Pay the $50 renewal fee
  • Renew annually
