Arizona Cannabis Laws and Regulations

Both medical and adult-use (recreational) cannabis are legal in Arizona. Medical marijuana was legalized in 2010, and adult-use cannabis was legalized in 2020.

Medical Marijuana Card Process

Step 1

Schedule an appointment with a certified physician.

  • Cancer
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hepatits C
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Crohn's disease
  • Agitation of Alzheimer's disease
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Severe and chronic pain
  • Severe nausea
  • Seizures, including those characteristic of epilepsy
  • Severe or persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristic of multiple sclerosis
  • Any other medical condition approved by the ADHS
  • Arizona allows telemedicine for medical cannabis consultations, including initial certifications and renewals.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license or state ID
  • Current photograph
  • Completed and signed physician certification form
  • Medical records or documentation of qualifying condition

Step 2

Obtain a physician's recommendation.

Step 3

Apply online with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS).

  • Valid Arizona driver's license or state ID
  • Current photograph
  • Completed and signed physician certification form
  • Medical records or documentation of qualifying condition
  • Visit the Arizona Department of Health Services website
  • Complete the online application
  • Pay the $150 application fee (or $75 for SNAP participants)
  • Await approval (usually within 5-10 business days)
  • Obtain new physician certification
  • Submit renewal application online
  • Pay renewal fee ($150 or $75 for SNAP participants)
  • Renew annually
