Step 2

The physician enters the recommendation into the state's medical marijuana registry.

Step 3

Patients can then purchase medical marijuana from licensed dispensaries (called "pharmacies" in Louisiana).

  • Valid Louisiana driver's license or state ID
  • Proof of residency
  • Physician recommendation
  • There is no state-issued medical marijuana card or application fee
  • Consult with a licensed physician
  • Receive a recommendation if qualified
  • The physician enters the recommendation into the state registry
  • Purchase medical marijuana from a licensed pharmacy
  • Obtain a new recommendation from a licensed physician
  • The physician updates the recommendation in the state registry
  • Renew as recommended by the physician (typically annually)
